Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information is collected when you use carryonsizechecker.com, why, who it is shared with and the choices you have. We have written it to be read, not skimmed past.

1. Who we are

Carry On Size Checker (carryonsizechecker.com, "the site", "we", "us") is a free online tool that checks whether a bag fits an airline's carry-on, personal item or checked baggage limit. The site is operated by Carry On Size Checker. For any privacy question or request, email [email protected].

This policy applies to every page of carryonsizechecker.com in every language. It does not cover the airline websites and other sites we link to, which have their own policies.

2. Summary

  • No account, no sign-up. You can use every part of the site without telling us who you are.
  • Your bag measurements stay in your browser. The size checker does its calculations on your device. The dimensions and weight you type are not sent to us or stored after you leave the page.
  • Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes basic technical data such as IP addresses to deliver the pages and protect the site from abuse.
  • Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages they use. It uses cookies; in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland they are only set if you consent (see section 5).
  • Advertising. We use, or may use, Google AdSense to show ads. Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads, including ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising at any time (see section 4).
  • We do not sell your personal information for money, and we do not collect sensitive information.

3. Information we collect

3.1 Information you give us

If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write in the message, for example the airline and link you want us to check. We use it only to read and answer your message and, where you report an outdated limit, to correct the site.

3.2 Bag measurements you type into the checker

The checker is a small program that runs entirely in your web browser. The length, width, depth and weight you enter, the airline you pick and the result are processed on your device and are not transmitted to our servers. We do not keep a copy.

If you choose Copy link to this result, the measurements are added to the web address (for example ?l=22&w=14&d=9) so that the person you send the link to sees the same result. That link only goes where you paste it. Like any web address, it may be recorded in your browser history, in the technical logs of the service that delivers the page (see 3.3) and, when the link is opened, in our Google Analytics reports as part of the page address (see section 5).

3.3 Information collected automatically

When you visit any website, your browser sends technical information with each request. Our hosting and security provider, Cloudflare, Inc., processes this information to deliver the pages quickly, keep the site available and protect it against attacks. It can include:

  • your IP address and approximate location derived from it (country or region);
  • browser type and version, operating system and device type;
  • the pages you request, the date and time, and the referring page;
  • security signals used to detect bots and abuse.

We do not use this information to identify you personally. Cloudflare's handling is described in the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

3.4 Information stored on your device

The site stores one small setting in your browser's local storage: whether you chose the light or dark theme (key theme). It never leaves your device and you can clear it at any time in your browser settings. Apart from this setting, cookies on the site are set by Google Analytics (section 5) and by advertising partners (section 4).

Fonts, icons and scripts that make the site work are served from our own domain. The exceptions are the Google Analytics script (section 5) and advertising, when shown (section 4), which are loaded from Google.

4. Cookies and advertising

The site is free and is paid for by advertising. We use, or may use, Google AdSense, a service provided by Google LLC (or Google Ireland Limited for users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland), to display ads.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • Google and its partners may also use cookies and similar technologies (such as device identifiers) to limit how often you see an ad, measure ad performance and prevent fraud.
  • Other ad vendors and ad networks that work with Google may also place cookies. You can review them and control them through the consent message described below.

How to opt out of personalized advertising

  • Turn off personalized ads from Google in Google Ads Settings (My Ad Center).
  • Opt out of personalized advertising from many third-party vendors at aboutads.info (United States) or youronlinechoices.eu (Europe).
  • Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking cookies may mean you still see ads, but they will be less relevant to you.

If you opt out, you will still see ads, but they will not be based on your browsing on other websites.

Consent in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, a consent message from a Google-certified consent management platform asks for your choice before cookies or similar technologies are used for personalized advertising. You can accept, reject or customize, and you can change your choice at any time through the privacy and cookie settings link shown with that message. If you do not consent, Google may still show non-personalized ads that use cookies only for purposes such as fraud prevention and frequency capping, where the law allows it.

5. Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC (Google Ireland Limited in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland), to count visits and understand which pages and features are used, so we can improve the site. Google Analytics uses first-party cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID) to tell visits apart. It collects information such as the pages you view and the page address, the referring website, how long you stay, your approximate location (city or country), and your device, browser and screen size. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. We do not send the measurements you type into the checker, and we do not use Google Analytics to identify you personally.

Consent. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google Analytics runs in "consent mode": analytics cookies are not set unless you accept them in the consent message, and without consent only anonymous, cookieless signals are sent. Elsewhere, analytics cookies are used by default and you can opt out as described below.

Opting out. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Google explains how it uses this data in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

6. How we use information

  • to deliver the site and its tools to you in your language;
  • to keep the site secure, prevent abuse and diagnose technical problems;
  • to show advertising that pays for the site, as described in section 4;
  • to answer your messages and correct airline information you report;
  • to comply with legal obligations and to enforce our Terms & Conditions.

We do not use your information for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

Where the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or the UK GDPR applies, we rely on:

  • legitimate interests to deliver and secure the site and to answer messages you send us;
  • consent for cookies and similar technologies used for personalized advertising, which you can withdraw at any time;
  • legal obligation where we must keep or disclose information by law.

8. Who we share information with

  • Cloudflare, Inc., which hosts the site, provides security and may forward email sent to our address;
  • Google, which provides Google Analytics (section 5), and Google and its advertising partners (section 4);
  • authorities or other parties when required by law, to protect our rights or safety, or in connection with a transfer of the site to a new owner, who would have to respect this policy.

We do not sell personal information for money and we do not share your email messages with advertisers.

9. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • ask whether we hold personal information about you and get a copy of it;
  • ask us to correct or delete it;
  • object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing;
  • receive your information in a portable format;
  • complain to your local data protection authority.

Because the checker does not store your measurements and we do not run accounts, the only personal information we usually hold is email you send us. To make a request, email [email protected]. We will answer within the time the law requires, normally one month. For advertising data held by Google, use the controls in section 4 or Google's own tools.

10. US state privacy rights

Residents of California and other US states with consumer privacy laws may have the right to know what personal information is collected, to delete it, to correct it and to opt out of its "sale" or "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not sell personal information for money. Advertising cookies placed by Google and its partners (section 4) may count as "sharing" under some of these laws. You can opt out by turning off personalized ads in Google Ads Settings, using the opt-out tools in section 4, or blocking third-party cookies in your browser. You can also email us with any request, and we will not treat you differently for using your rights.

11. How long we keep information

  • Bag measurements: not stored by us at all.
  • Email: kept for as long as needed to answer you and fix any reported problem, and deleted within 24 months unless we need it longer for a legal reason.
  • Hosting and security logs: kept by Cloudflare for the limited periods set out in its policy.
  • Google Analytics data: kept for the retention period set in our Google Analytics account, at most 14 months; the _ga cookies expire after up to 2 years unless you delete them.
  • Theme setting: kept in your browser until you clear it.

12. International transfers

Our service providers operate worldwide, and your information may be processed in the United States and other countries whose data protection laws differ from yours. Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, these transfers rely on safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework used by those providers.

13. Children

The site is a general-audience travel tool and is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

14. Security

The site is served only over encrypted HTTPS connections, uses security headers that limit how pages can be embedded or misused, and does not run accounts or databases of visitor data that could be breached. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but we keep the amount of personal information we handle as small as possible.

Every airline page links to that airline's official baggage page so you can confirm the rules. When you follow a link, you leave our site and the other website's privacy policy applies. We are not responsible for how other websites handle your information.

16. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when the site or the law changes, for example if we add a new analytics or advertising partner. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change is significant, we will make it clear on the site.
