What is a carry-on bag?
A carry-on is the bag you take into the cabin and put in the overhead bin. It is separate from the personal item, the smaller bag that goes under the seat in front of you. Most airlines allow one of each.
How big can a carry-on bag be?
American, Delta, United, JetBlue and Alaska all allow 22 × 14 × 9 in. Southwest and Frontier allow a little more, 24 × 16 × 10 in. In Europe and Asia the usual limit is 55 × 40 × 20 cm or 55 × 40 × 23 cm, which is about 21.5 × 15.5 × 8 to 9 in.
