What can you take in hand luggage?
Most everyday items are fine in hand luggage. The main limits are liquids (100 ml containers at most airports), sharp items like loose razor blades, and batteries, which must stay in the cabin.

Liquids
At most airports each liquid must be in a container of 100 ml (3.4 oz) or less, all in one clear resealable bag of about one litre. Some UK airports with new scanners now allow up to 2 litres, so check your airport before you fly.
Razors and sharp items
Disposable razors and cartridge razors are allowed in hand luggage. Loose razor blades, knives and large scissors must go in checked luggage.
Power banks and batteries
Power banks and spare lithium batteries must be in hand luggage, never in checked bags. Up to 100 Wh is allowed, 100 to 160 Wh needs airline approval, and over 160 Wh is banned. Since March 2026 most airlines allow no more than two power banks per passenger and do not let you charge them on board; some allow only one.
Laptops
Laptops are allowed in hand luggage and are safer there. In checked luggage they must be switched off completely and protected from damage.
